M & S Grill - Baltimore, MD

msgrill

M & S Grill
201 East Pratt Street
Baltimore, Maryland
Ph: 410-547-9333
Meal: Lunch for one with non- alcoholic beverage & tip: $15.55
Web: Right Here

A weekday business trip to Baltimore, aka “Charm City”, offered an opportunity for a quick lunch downtown near the famous Inner Harbor. Amtrak’s Northeast Regional train from Philadelphia was a bit late in leaving but it didn’t put lunch in jeopardy. Not having all that much time to wander the area and choose among the many restaurants in the area, my business colleague and I decided on the M&S Grill. It is located on busy Pratt Street right at the Inner Harbor and is a relatively easy ride from Penn Station. Once inside it looked vaguely familiar, the dark paneling, brass & glass surroundings. Likewise I thought that the oval logo and initials reminded me of Mc Cormick & Schmick…and as it turned out I was correct! So much for those senior moments. Since it was still early at 11:30 there was no problem in finding a place to sit. A booth with a view of Pratt Street did the trick and our waitress soon appeared with the menus in hand.

Cheesecake Factory - Cherry Hill, NJ

The Cheesecake Factory
The Marketplace at Garden State Park
931 Haddonfield Road
Cherry Hill, New Jersey
Phone: 856-665-7550
Meal: Dinner for Four
Website/Menu: Cheesecake Factory

Cherry Hill is pretty well known as an upscale southern New Jersey suburb. Even people who aren’t too familiar with the geography of the state have heard of it. That may have had a lot to do with the twin icons for the town, the Cherry Hill water tower (complete with cherry logo) and the Cherry Hill Mall-the oldest covered one in the nation. Well the Water Tower has been repainted to a little more sedate style, and the cherry logo is gone. The mall is also undergoing some renewal as well. As a town that never really had a sense of place, there really isn’t any downtown, it was with great excitement that the former Garden State Park became available as a pseudo-central core. While no one will confuse the redeveloped Garden State Park with say Moorestown, what has been built is a place where a broader range of people will visit and coalesce.

The Tortilla Press - Collingswood, NJ

Salsa

Hard pressed to be exceptional.

The Tortilla Press - Collingswood, NJ
Price: $50 (For Two - Excludes Tip)
Meal: Dinner / Weekend / 8pm
Website and Menu: Right Here

We were in the mood for some good Mexican, and read a few nice reviews of the Tortilla Press in Collingswood. Located on Haddon Ave in the heart of the aesthetically pleasing downtown, parking is a little tricky on a weekend and you’ll have to get lucky with a street meter spot or just grab a spot at the PATCO station and take a short walk. Reservations are recommended, although we had no problem walking right in and getting a table within a few minutes. We did get a glance at the reservation sheet and noticed an army of no-shows. As with any restaurant in Collingswood, there’s no alcohol available, but you’re welcome to bring your own.

After that In ‘N Out Burger in Vegas, it’s time to get back to the grind of everyday fast food. I’ve always thought Wendy’s was a premium to McDonald’s and BK, but that’s why we make the reviews, isn’t it. Since no doubt you’ve seen or been to a Wendy’s at some point in your life, we’ll skip to the meat of the content. Yes, that’s a burger pun.
