Martinos Trattoria & Pizzeria - Vineland, NJ

Martini’s Trattoria & Pizzeria
Vineland, NJ
Meal: Lunch / Weekend / 3pm
Price: $43.69 (For Two - Not Including Tip)

One of the reasons I decided to post reviews on Chewru is because my area is ofter overlooked for it’s wonderful historic places to explore
and its excellent restaurants. Salem and Cumberland Counties have so much to offer. I am hoping I might persuade more people to tour our area. I invite you to come on down.

One of these gems would be Martino’s. It would be a mistake to judge this restaurant by its exterior. Riding by, you may not even realize it is a restaurant. Martino’s is in an old storefront type building, but inside is a treat for the senses. Murals on the walls elicit the feeling of dining in an open air cafe on the banks of the water in Italy. Umbrellas strategically placed and a fountain in the center add to this vision. The aromas of fine Italian cooking fill the air and suddenly you are transformed to another time and place. Charming tables and chairs complete the picture and allow you to dine in total comfort.

I must confess I have eaten here before when I am in the area and have always been satisfied with the food and service. Sunday was another beautiful day and yet another opportunity to relieve my cabin fever of the winter and to take advantage of driving before the gasoline prices force me to stay closer to home.

My friend and I arrived about 3 pm on Sunday afternoon before the usual dinner crowd. We were seated immediately and our server promptly took the drink order. The restaurant does not sell alcohol, but you may BYOB. We chose sodas. Along with our sodas, the complimentary bulb of roasted garlic, a selection of Italian breads, three dipping sauces, and the usual olive oil for dipping were served. As usual, delicious!

We decided to share an appetizer of clams casino; six clams topped with peppers, onion, bacon, and cheese. It was very good and the presentation appealing.

For my entree, I chose Rigatoni ala Vodka which is pasta in a tomatoe cream sauce with a touch of Vodka. I asked to substitute Penne pasta and my request was accomodated without issue. My friend chose Lasagna Bolognese. This is for the meat lovers in your world. The meal consists of delicate sheets of pasta layered with meat ragu and ricotta cheese baked in a wood buring oven. Both entrees were served with choice of soup or salad. We chose salad and it arrived nicely chilled and fresh. The house dressing, our choice, was tasty and delicate.

Our server was attentive enough to provide excellent service, yet not so attentive as to disrupt our conversation or dining experience. Our portions were large enough to carry home dinner for another evening. The total bill 43.69 included appetizer 8.95, two entrees at 13.95 each, and two sodas at 1.95 each.

Martino’s menu is extensive serving breakfast, lunch, dinner, pizza, stromboli, calzone, panzerroti, salads, and tradition sandwiches. For the total experience including food, service, and ambiance I give Martino’s a 4 out of 5. For this style of restaurant it is exceptional!

This place is definitely the best Italian restaurant period. The line to get in this place during the weekend is well worth the wait and is only demonstrated by people waiting in lines to get inside to try its great food and garlic bread. It is also very aesthetically appealing with its grand murals and authentic Italian music. It is almost as if you are truly in Italy. Its always a pleasure to eat in this restaurant with my hubby, even if i have to wait a little which I really don’t mind because the food is well worth it and i get away from the kids(hehe). Since my husband and i both work late takeout is ideal for us. I just love this place and have to agree with this article in that it is one of the gems in vineland.

this was the absolute worst frutti di mare i’ve ever had. first of all, the cute italian hostesses didn’t even acknowledge us for about 15 minutes, then it was on. my frutti di mare consisted of FRIED that’s right i said fried scallops, shrimp, calamari on a plate that looked like an appetizer sampler and a small bowl of spaghetti…that’s frutti di mare…that’s my favorite dish and it absolutely sucked…$17 down the drain!
